Annapolis, MD – Get ready to groove and celebrate community spirit at the Rhythm & Hues: A Banneker-Douglass Museum Summer Block Party! We welcome you to the Banneker-Douglass Museum in Annapolis on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 10 AM to 4 PM for this vibrant cultural experience featuring vendors, yoga activities, outdoor sip and paints, and live performances by headliner Black Alley, Lauren White, KaribFIT and Karib Dance and Cultural Arts Studio, DJ Kevin Coombe

The Banneker-Douglass Museum, soon to be known as the Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum, is proud to welcome the public to our joyous gathering blending history, heritage, music, art, wellness, and community engagement. Franklin Street, now Alpha Phi Alpha Way, will be the place to cut a rug and connect with history as attendees will also get to enjoy the REVISIT/REIMAGINE Civil Rights exhibition currently on view in celebration of Maryland’s Year of Civil Rights.

This free event promises something for everyone as guests can enjoy a day of entertaining music performances from talented local artists during Black Music Appreciation Month. Enjoy Lauren White’s soulful performance of R&B infused with elements of Soul, Jazz, Rock, Hip-Hop, and Gospel, the energetic fitness experience of KaribFit, and beats provided by DJ Kevin Coombe. Black Alley, the headliner and DC’s “Trap + Rock + Go-Go” band creates a unique musical elixir taking the finest ingredients of trap, rock, and go-go to create their genre-bending sound called “Hood Rock.” Baltimore’s own Derrick Chase will keep the party going from start to finish as host.

Attendees can engage in a yoga session with Andrea Better and participate in an outdoor sip and paint session with artist Lex Marie. The event will feature Creative Conversations with Maryland-based artists, providing a platform for inspiring dialogues and artistic exchange.

“This event is a celebration of community, culture, and creativity, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone for a day of fun and connection,” said Chanel C. Johnson, Executive Director of Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture and the Banneker-Douglass Museum.
